One fascinating aspect of the polar night was the special light. There was something magical about it - it's like an extended blue hour.

Happy New Year to everyone!
We were lucky and got to see the aurora borealis twice. It was a very impressive experience. (please excuse the noise, my camera can only expose 2 secs so I had to go up to ISO 3200)

I took this picture yesterday somewhere close to Hinterzarten.
I'll be gone for some days - on Thursday we'll fly to Tromsø (without my computer, so there'll be no blogging). Maybe we'll be lucky and see the aurora borealis.

I took this picture when we came back from the Danube Delta by hydrofoil which can be seem in the background.

Right now, the weather here is very similar - lots of rain...so there will be no chance to see the today's total eclipse of the Moon. :(
