This monument marks km 0 in Bucharest and commemorates the 1989 revolution. The flag with the missing crest is a symbol of the revolution. The building in the background is the National Theatre of Romania. Tomorrow I'll be there :-)
The images speak for themselves, ought to be spending a lot of cold in those lands, however, the photos with the snow and ice are beautiful, they give a lot of play.
Fascinating. I changed aeroplanes there on a cheapo flight in 1984, but learned nothing about the place – other than that it was cold and inhospitable and that there were no shops or cafes open in the airport (in the evening or day). Thanks for this more recent insight.
Thank you for your visit. I didn't go to the National Theatre, I just went walking on the outside. Maybe, tonight we'll go to another theatre for a performance, a friend has tickets and probably no time to go there herself. When I posted the picture I was wondering whether one day there will be similar memorials in Tunis or Cairo.... Boonie, these days there are lots of options to have a coffee at the airport. :)

What an interesting signpost. I have found a similar mile post zero in Sri Lanka too. I put a link-back to your site from there :)
